How to Join:

A. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

1. Membership in the NBAN is open to the following categories of stakeholders: Telecommunications Operators

  • Mobile Network Operators (MNOs)
  • Internet Service Providers (ISPs)
  • Tower and Infrastructure Companies

2. Government Entities

  • Federal, state, and local government agencies responsible for ICT, communications, or digital economy development.
  • Entities involved in policymaking, regulation, or the deployment of broadband infrastructure.

3. Private Sector

  • Technology companies, equipment vendors, and consulting firms with a focus on broadband solutions
  • Financial institutions investing in digital infrastructure

4. Civil Society and NGOs

  • Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and community-based organisations (CBOs) that work in digital inclusion, education, or community development.

5. Educational and Research Institutions

  • Universities, Polytechnics, and Research Institutes involved in telecommunications and ICT

6. International Organisations

  • Multilateral and bilateral development organisations that provide funding, technical assistance, or policy support for broadband initiatives.
  • International technology providers with a presence in Nigeria and a commitment to digital inclusion.

7. Industry and Professional Association

  • Associations representing the interests of telecommunications, technology, and related sectors.
 
 

B. MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

NBAN membership is divided into the following categories:

Core Members

Who Should Join: Federal and state government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), including regulators and key policy makers responsible for telecommunications, ICT, and infrastructure development.

Purpose: To drive policy formulation, implementation, and provide regulatory oversight to accelerate broadband penetration and adoption across Nigeria.

Benefits:

  • Direct influence on broadband policy and strategy development.
  • Access to exclusive forums with government stakeholders and industry leaders.
  • Participation in shaping the national broadband framework and implementation plans.

Industry Members

Who Should Join: Telecom operators, internet service providers (ISPs), infrastructure providers, tower companies, and technology vendors involved in broadband services and infrastructure deployment. Purpose: To contribute to and benefit from the development of the broadband ecosystem, with a focus on infrastructure deployment, service expansion, and technological innovations.

Benefits:

  • Access to networking opportunities with government entities and other industry players.
  • Opportunity to influence regulatory and policy changes that affect the broadband sector.
  • Inclusion in collaborative projects aimed at enhancing broadband access and quality across Nigeria.

Affiliate Members

Who Should Join: Academic institutions, research organizations, non- governmental organizations (NGOs), and international development agencies with an interest in broadband development and digital inclusion.

Purpose: To provide research, advocacy, and educational support for the broadband initiative, and to foster digital literacy and inclusion across underserved and rural areas.

Benefits:

  • Collaboration opportunities with core and industry members to drive research, training, and community outreach programs.
  • Participation in initiatives aimed at bridging the digital divide and promoting broadband adoption in underserved areas.
  • Access to NBAN reports, data, and resources to inform research and advocacy efforts.
 
 

C. MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION PROCESS

Interested stakeholders can apply for membership in the NBAN by following these steps:

1. Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI):

Interested parties must submit an EOI to the NBAN Secretariat, detailing their intent to join the alliance, their contributions to broadband development, and how they align with the NBAN’s objectives.

2. Complete the Membership Application Form:

The form will require details such as the organization’s name, contact information, key areas of contribution, and specific broadband-related projects or expertise.

3. Review Process:

The NBAN Desk will review the application and assess the organizations alignment with the goals of the Alliance.

4. Membership Approval:

Upon successful review, applicants will receive an official notification of membership acceptance and sign a membership agreement that outlines their responsibilities, commitments, and the terms of their membership.

5. Orientation:

New members will receive an orientation to familiarize them with NBAN’s goals, structure, and ongoing initiatives

D. MEMBERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

All NBAN members are expected to fulfil the following responsibilities:

1. Active Participation:

  • Attend meetings, workshops, and other NBAN activities regularly.
  • Contribute to discussions, share insights, and provide feedback on NBAN initiatives.

2. Resource Contribution:

  • Provide financial, technical, or in-kind support for NBAN projects, as agreed upon in the membership agreement.
  • Collaborate with other members to pool resources and drive joint initiatives.

3. Sharing Knowledge and Resources:

  • Members are encouraged to share their expertise, research, and resources to advance the collective goals of the Alliance.

4. Supporting Policy Advocacy Efforts:

  • Members should engage in advocacy efforts aimed at influencing broadband policies and regulatory frameworks to promote an enabling environment for broadband development.

5. Compliance with NBAN Policies:

  • Adhere to NBAN’s policies, guidelines, and ethical standards.
  • Maintain transparency and accountability in all activities related to NBAN.

6. Reporting and Communication:

  • Regularly report on their contributions and progress in alignment with NBAN objectives.
  • Communicate any challenges or needs for support to the NBAN Desk.

E. MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

Members of the NBAN will enjoy a wide range of benefits, including:

Members will have access to exclusive research, reports, and data on Nigeria’s broadband landscape, market trends, and regulatory developments.

2. Collaboration Opportunities:

Members will have access to a network of like-minded organizations, allowing for the formation of strategic partnerships and joint ventures.

6. Recognition and Visibility:

Membership in the NBAN offers recognition as a key player in Nigeria’s digital transformation efforts, with increased visibility at national and international forums.

7. Priority Access to Funding Opportunities:

The NBAN will provide members with information on funding and investment opportunities, including grants, loans, and public-private partnership initiatives.

F. MEMBERSHIP REVIEW AND RENEWAL

Membership in the NBAN is subject to periodic review:

1. Annual Review:

  • The NBAN Desk will conduct an annual review of all members to assess their contributions, participation, and alignment with NBAN’s goals.
  • Members who do not meet the expected level of participation or contribution may be downgraded or have their membership terminated.

2. Renewal Process:

  • Membership is renewed annually, subject to satisfactory performance and continued alignment with NBAN’s objectives.
  • Members will be notified of the renewal process and any changes to the terms of membership.
 

G. TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP

Membership may be terminated under the following conditions:

1. Voluntary Withdrawal:

A member may choose to withdraw from the NBAN by providing written notice to the NBAN Desk.

2. Non-Compliance:

Failure to adhere to NBAN’s policies, guidelines, or membership responsibilities may result in termination.

3. Inactivity:

Members who do not participate in NBAN activities for an extended period may have their membership terminated after a review process.
